The Art of the Title Sequence: True Detective

By now you’ve probably heard about HBO’s latest TV-series, True Detective. If you haven’t, make sure to check it out!

One of the first things that made us fall in love with Ture Detective was the intro. The series, featuring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as police detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, is a melancholic crime drama set in 1990’s Luisiana, USA. The intro, produced by Elastic and designed and directed by Antibody, is the perfect mood setter in the beginning of each episode. Using double exposed imagery and a technique called projection mapping, Creative Director Patrick Clair, really nailed the essence of the show. In an interview with Will Perkins for Art of the Title, Patrick explains the idea and process behind the intro. If you’re into case studies and title sequences like us, it’s a really interesting read.
